Floyd Stanley Rogers, age 83, went to be with the Lord on June 5, 2008 at Pikes Care Center in Colorado Springs.

He was born January 29, 1925 in Memphis, Tennessee, the son of Floyd and Edith (Fowler) Rogers.

He joined the Navy at the age of 17, right after Pearl Harbor and served for the duration of World War II. He was assigned and served on the troop carrier ship the USS Hermitage.

On one of his voyages from India back to the United States he met a beautiful young girl Cornelia "Connie" Livengood, the daughter of missionaries returning to the United States on furlough, who would become his wife on June 1, 1946. After his service in the Navy, he would attend Memphis State University and receive a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. He subsequently would attend Clarke Institute for the Deaf and receive a Masters of Science in Deaf Education.

He brought his family to Colorado Springs in 1958 to teach at the Deaf and Blind School and received a Masters degree from Colorado College and Colorado State Teacher's College. Later he joined District 11 schools as a Special Education teacher and retired from District 11 in 1988.

Floyd was also a public accountant and performed audits and tax preparations. He loved his family, grandchildren, and friends and enjoyed traveling, camping, boating, and fishing with his family. His interests included computers, welding, and working on cars.

He was a member of Circle Drive Baptist church where he enjoyed serving in the deaf ministry, helping in several Thanksgiving Feasts, and Living Christmas Tree programs.

He is survived by three children Virginia (Chuck) Kinnaman, Stan (Gayle) Rogers, Dick (Toni) Rogers, four grandchildren Stacey (Brandon) Sullivan, Seth Rogers, Aaron Rogers, Caitlin Rogers, two great grandchildren Ashley and Shelby Sullivan, a sister Martha Meyer, a brother James Rogers, and a cousin Otis (Zorka) Corely.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Connie Rogers, a grandson Bobby Kinnaman, and a sister Doris Harris.

A Celebration of Life service was held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2008 with visitation 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
