Joseph M. Bergen, Jr, 78, passed away June 10, 2008. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, June 16, at Holy Family Catholic Church, with burial in Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kan. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, June 15, at Mt. Moriah Terrace Park Funeral Home, with the rosary at 5 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, 919 N.E. 96th St., Kansas City, MO 64155. Joseph was born August 13, 1929, in Flushing, New York, to Veronica and Joseph Bergen, Sr. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and member of the Knights of Columbus. Joseph was a member of Holy Family Church and was a lay minister. He loved to play tennis and entertain family and friends. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Barbara, and two brothers, Bill and Dan Bergen. Survivors include his son Joseph M. Bergen III and wife Kelly Jean; daughter Patty Horvatic and husband Kenny; four granddaughters, Jennifer M. Bergen, Miranda A. Bergen, Christina M. Horvatic and Danielle E. Horvatic; two sisters, Anselma Beckwith and husband Stewart and Margaret McHale; his companion, Mildred Knodel, and numerous nieces and nephews.
