Gordon L. Jenkins of Grand Island, the son of Lot T. and Bessie E. Gustin Jenkins, was born June 15, 1920 at Fullerton. He died unexectedly Wednesday, November 10, 1993, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island following an apparent heart attack. He was 73 years of age.

Mr. Jenkins received his elementary education in the Fullerton schools and graduated from Fullerton High School in 1937.

He entered the United States Navy in 1943. He served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII, honorably discharged in November 1945.

On November 8, 1944, Mr. Jenkins was united in marriage to Marece DeVore at the United Methodist Parsonage in St. Edward. They lived in Loretto, Nebraska where he managed the Meridith Cash Store; Yankton, Armour, and Springfield, South Dakota where he worked for Palmer Fruit Company. In 1959, they moved to St. Edward, Nebraska, and in 1973, to Grand Island, Nebraska. He worked as a Territorial Manager for the Dexter Axle Company in Grand Island for 25 years.

Mr. Jenkins was an avid pheasant hunter, competent vegetable gardener, and superb dancer. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Elks Lodge, and Platt-Duetsche. He was also a member of the American Legion and VFW.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda Werts and husband Allen of Portland Oregon; two grandsons, Joel Corcoran of Corvallis, Oregon and Jarrett Corcoran, a student at the University of Illinois in Urbana, Illinois; two sisters, Velma Dudney and husband Leon of Fullerton and Donna Wilson and husband Richard of Ocala, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Marece, on August 29, 1977, two brothers, Harold and Charles; and two infant sisters, Pauline and Gladys.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 13, 1993 from the United Methodist-Presbyterian Church in St. Edward. Rev. Mike McInnis officiated at the 2 PM service. Graveside military rites were conducted by American legion Crosier Post 226 at Evergreen Cemetery.
