Jesse Hayes paternal ancestry is almost purely from the 1630-1650 immigrants to Puritan New England. His ancestry has been traced to over 50 of those Puritans who migrated during that period to Massachusetts, Long Island, and Connecticut.

His Baldwin line is: Jesse Hayes-8, Newton Holland-7, Ezra-6, Elijah-5, Daniel-4, Daniel-3, Benjamin-2, Henry-1 the immigrant. Newton Holland Baldwin-7 was an early Kansas homesteader and Civil War Veteran, Elijah-5 and Daniel-4 Baldwin were Revolutionary War Veterans from Vermont.

He was born on the family farm in Ottawa County, Kansas in 1877, and left for China in 1907 as a Missionary for the Methodist Episcopal Church, where he served into the late 1920's. He married Gertrude Irene Dreisbach Nov 18, 1914, in Shanghai, China. They had Emma in 1916 in Peking, China and Gertrude in 1919 in Changli, China.

They were in Fontana, San Bernadino Co, California in 1930 (US Census). They later moved to Corvallis, Oregon, where they lived the rest of their lives.
