Death of a Pioneer
Died, at the family home in this city, on Wednesday, May 7th, at the age of 69 years, 11 months and 24 days, after a protracted illness, H. S. Burlingame, an old and respected pioneer resident of this county and city. Funeral services will be held at the family residence today, at 2 o'clock p.m., Rev. H. P. James officiating. Friends of the family invited.

Henry served in Captain Kelly's Rangers from October 26th of 1855 to February 2nd, 1856.

Henry is listed as being in the Clark County Rangers 2nd Reft., Washington Volunteers, under Captain William Kelly from April 6th to July 16, 1856 Rank was 2nd Sgt. He is described in the military records as: 5'8" tall, age 31, born in New York, dark complexion, black hair with hazel eyes.

Commissioners for the new county were named in the organic act. They were G. D. Wilbur, William R. Rexford and Henry S. Burlingame. They, in turn, named the other officers necessary for the primative government. John Denny was probate judge, with duties roughly similar to those of a modern superior court judge. Charles D. Porter was sheriff and assessor a combination calculated to facilitate and encourage the payment of taxes and Warren A. Belcher was treasurer. C. E. White was school superintendent and John Fericher was the cornor.
