LIDWELL – B. John, 85, Ashville, died June 2, 2008, at home. Born June 5, 1922, in Ashville, son of the late Bernard J. and Margaret (McGee) Lidwell. Preceded in death by wife, the former M. Leona Marra, on Dec. 17, 1993, and these brothers and sisters, Francis, Dorothy Funicelli, Thomas "Bubbles," Rose Peterman and Mary Lou Kline. Survived by sons: Rick (Sandra), Duncansville; Alan (Patty), Ashville R.D.; Gary (Holly), Chest Springs; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Brother of Patty Stock, Cresson; Michael, Ashville; and Lois Sutton, Cresson; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Attended Cresson High School. World War II Army veteran where he served as a staff sergeant in the infantry as a gunner and was awarded the Philippines Liberation Ribbon with a Bronze Star, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars and a Bronze Arrowhead. Worked as a carman/welder inspector of Conrail for 29 years and retired in 1984. John enjoyed hunting, fishing and carpenter work. Served as Scout master in Ashville area for eight years. Life member of Ashville VFW. Member of Loretto American Legion; Laurel Run Sportsmen, Dysart; Mountain Top Sportsmen, Coupon; Ashville Volunteer Fire Company; Central District Fire Association; and St. Thomas Catholic Church, Ashville, where funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, the Rev. Sean Code, celebrant. Committal, St. Thomas Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Gibbons Funeral Home, Ashville, where a vigil wake service will be held Wednesday. Military rites in charge of Ashville VFW, Loretto American Legion and other local military organizations.
