Winnie Mary Brown was born April 13 1855 at Pierpont, Ohio. She moved with her parents to Dakota county Minnesota when a young girl and lived there for several years. The family then moved to eastern Iowa, making their home at Auburn Iowa. In the spring of 1879 she moved to Rock county Minnesota to keep house for her brothers, Dudley and Charles Brown who homesteaded the farm now owned and occupied by Elmer Wellendorf. On December 25 of the same year she was married to Aseph E. Bowen, also an early pioneer of the township. They made their home on three different farms and later moved to the village of Kanaranzi where Mr Bowen was a grain buyer for the E. A. Brown Company for a period of 30 years. In May 1920 the couple moved to Luverne where they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Aseph Bowen died November 8 1931. Since that time Mrs. Bowen has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Andrew Jensen at Sunny Side Farm. She was the mother of six children, six of whom survive her passing. A son, Glenn A. Bowen died in 1927. The surviving children are: Mrs Jennie Rowland, Luverne; Zula, Mrs. Andrew Jensen, Sunny Side Farm; Earl Bowen, Ellsworth; Opal, Mrs. Chris J. Christensen, Rochester Minnesota and Marvel B. Bowen, Luverne.
