A large number of relatives and friends gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chandler LaGrone Monday afternoon to pay final tribute to Mrs. LaGrone's mother, Mrs. Robbie Rea McRae, who passed away at her home Sunday afternoon. The rites were conducted by the Rev. George H Gay, pastor of the Baptist Church of which Mrs. McRae was a faithful member. Two of Mrs. McRae's favorite hymns, Have Thine Own Way Lord and The Old Rugged Cross, were swung by Mrs. Howard Deavenport with Mrs. C C McLanahan as accompanist. Burial was in the I O O F Cemetery with Barry-Chandler in charge.
Pallbearers were Y T Rowan, A C Taylor, C M Savage, James Hill, K Parham and T C Woodfin.
Mrs. McRae, who was 70, died Sunday afternoon following an illness of ten days following a heart attack and partial stroke. A native of Starkville, she was a daughter of the lat Joel H and Mary McClendon. In 1893 she was married to the late J W McRae and made her home in Meridian for three years, coming to Okolona in 1896.
A devoted mother and devout Christian, she possessed a pleasing personality and was loved by all who knew her.
In addition to her daughter, Mrs. Lagrone, she is survived by another daughter, Mrs. C H McInnis, of Birmingham; three sons, J W McRae, of Aberdeen; Corporal Perry McRae, of Camp Shelby, and Blackmon McRae, of New Orleans. With the exception of Corporal McRae, all of these were with their mother when the end came. He had returned to Camp Shelby on Friday night after having spent a week with his mother.
