Charles Maxfield Parrish passed away on June 7, 2008, and is now reunited with the light of his life, Gloria. He resided at 1030 South Military Drive (1650 East) in the University Village area of Salt Lake City, Utah at the time of his death.

Max was born in 1924 at Milford, Utah, to Charles Russell and Edna Kohler Parrish. He attended the W. M. Stewart and East High Schools in Salt Lake City, and developed an interest in both piano and tennis. Max became accomplished at both. He briefly attended the University of Utah, transferring to Stanford University as an undergraduate, and went on to medical school at the University of California, Berkeley. As a physician, Dr. Parrish was a pioneer in cardiovascular surgery in the intermountain area. In 1957, he established a cardiovascular laboratory and performed the first open heart surgery at the former Holy Cross Hospital (now Salt Lake Regional Medical Center). He also established diagnostic coronary arteriography, and was highly regarded by his medical colleagues as an astute clinician and master technician. Max was an avid outdoorsman and music lover with an excellent sense of humor. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, and friend, and will be greatly missed.

Max is survived by his sister, Barbara Parrish Strong; his son, and daughter in-law, Charles Bryan and Kristine Larsen Parrish; his grandchildren, Erika Marie and Charles Kurt Parrish; nephews Brett Charles and Lance James Strong; and nieces Melissa and Melanie Mamakos.

A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, June 12 at 12:00 noon at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 Highland Drive in East Millcreek. Friends and colleagues are warmly invited.
