Elias Tilford Spurgeon was the 5th of the 7 known children of Aaron & Julia Butler Spurgeon. He served in the Union Army during the War. His father and brothers had Confederate affections. Apparently Julia also had Union sympathies, because after the war she came to live with Elias. Aaron went his own way. I've never found a divorce action. Elias' wife Joanna died as a result of childbirth complications 2 Apr 1883. The infant was still born or died shortly after birth. Joanna was buried with the child in her arms in Friendship Cemetery. Julia lived out her life helping to care for Elias' family and eventually was cared for by them her remaining days.
