Edward N. Allen (October 18, 1907 - February 11, 2005)
Funeral services for Edward N. Allen, 97, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, at the Torrington United Methodist Church with Pastor Ora Daily officiating. Burial will follow in Valley View Cemetery. Visitation was held Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon and prior to the service at the church.
Allen died at Northfield Villa in Scottsbluff, Neb., on Friday, Feb. 11, 2005.
He was born Oct. 18, 1907, in Valley, Neb., the son of Louis Edward Allen and Minnie Olive (Tabler) Allen. When he was five years old, the family moved to a homestead 13 miles north of Torrington in the Prairie Center community. He later farmed with his father on the home place.
He married Geraldine Matilda Hartman on July 2, 1930, in Jay Em, and the couple in 1934 moved to Jay Em, where Allen worked for Lake Harris. In 1945, they moved to Lusk, and in 1951 they moved to Torrington. Allen worked for Wyoming Gas Service, which later became Petrolane, for 32 years before retiring in 1973.
Geraldine died in 1965. On April 30, 1966, he married Kathryn E. (Kampbell) Herdt-Wells-Allen. She passed away in 1984. He then married Celesta Baird on April 21, 1984 in Torrington. They continued to live in Torrington until February of 2001, when they moved to Northfield Villa.
Allen was active in the Golden Ages clubs in Torrington and Gering, Neb., and he played drums in a band for dances. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Billy Allen and his wife Beverly of Lingle, and Daniel Allen of Haysville, Kan.; two daughters , Peggy Doty and her husband Jack of Wichita, Kan.; and Judy Prickett of Wellington, Kan.; three stepsons, Lloyd Baird and wife Jay of Victorville, Calif., Don Baird and wife Sadie of Victorville, Calif., and Herschel Baird and wife Suzanne of Scottsbluff, Neb.; 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his first two wives and his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Edward Jr.; one grandchild; and three sisters, Velma Ruby (Allen) Shoults, Evalyn Murle (Allen) Lang-McIntosh and Helen Elizabeth (Allen) Duncan.
A memorial has been established to the church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Colyer Funeral Home.

NOTE 2008 : Edward's 3rd wife Celesta is still living and turned 106 this year.
