Stewart, also known as Stewart Laconte Hodge, was born the tenth of eleven children to Abraham "Abram" Robert Hodge and Agatha Carson. He married Carma Bair in 1935. They were the parents of two children. Stewart died at the LDS Hospital in SLC, UT following a lingering illness.

Afton Merchant Dies After Lengthy Illness
After several months of critical illness caused by a virtually incurable high blood pressure condition, Stewart E. hodge, 41, Afton businessman passed away Friday, July 24 at 10:15 p.m. at the LDS Star Valley Hospital in Afton. Mr Hodge underwent two major operations last spring at the St. Benedict Hospital in Ogden, preformed by specialists, against great odds.
Mr Hodge and his family came to Afton in 1951 and opened the Gamble's Western Auto Supply Co. store here, which soon became one of the community's thriving businesses.
Mr Hodge was born July 6, 1912 Iona Idaho, the son of Abram Hodge and Agatha Carson, the youngest child of a family of eleven. He received his education at the elementary and high schools of Idaho Falls, Idaho, the University of Idaho, Southern Branch, Pocatello, and the LDS Business College, Salt Lake City.
During his school career to took a very active part in athletics. He played regularly on a basketball team which became state champions of Idaho and was chosen all-state guard one year.
He was married to Carma Bair in the Logan Temple July 23, 1935. To this union were born a son, Stewart Jr.now aged 11 and a daughter Dorene, now 7.
Mr Hodge was first employed at the American National Bank in Idaho Falls where he worked for two years. He was later transferred to Shelley, Idaho where he continued his employment with the same bank for ten years more. He also engaged in the real estate and insurance business before coming to Star Valley in 1951. He established a successful authorized dealership with Gamble's Western Auto Supply Co. in Afton, which has been successfully maintained in spite of his poor health. His good wife stood faithfully by him, doing all that was humanly possible under trying conditions.
Survivors, besides his wife and two children, are his mother, Mos Soren Jensen, Idaho Falls; three sisters, Mrs Era Sayer, Idaho Falls, Mrs Edna Robinson, Pocatello, and Mrs Neva Hicks, Monroe, Utah; two brothers Abe Hodge, Garland, Utah, and Iral Hodge Walnut Creek, California. He was preceded in passing by his father, two brothers and one sister.
Impressive funeral services were conducted in the flower-filled Afton South Ward Chapel Monday, July 27, with Bishop Harold R. Papworth in charge. The program was as follows;
Processional Music; Vernell, Allred, Organ, Karen Schwab, Violin. Song: "In The Garden" Elaine Child and Norma Hastings, accompanied by Margaret Winters. Invocation, Bp. Osborn Low. Speaker, E. LaVere Johns, Song "Smillin Through" Ernest Turner, Speaker, Bp Elmer Lancaster, Remarks, Bp. Harold R. Papworth, Closing Song Blaine Bradshaw "I'll Go Where You Want Me To Go" accompanied by Nelda Tippets. Closing prayer, Paul Cazier. Recessional Music, Vernell Allred, Karen Schwab.
Prayer in the mortuary before the services was offered by Bp. Edwin N. Allred.
Pallbearers were Paul Cazier, Alvin Meyer, Lamar Christensen, Tom Robinson, Charles Huss and Lowell Osmond, Arrangements were by the Schwab Mortuary.
Burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery at Idaho Falls. The grave was dedicated by Bp. Art Thompson.
