Alton B. Monk Sr., 78, of Sprakers, died Monday night, Nov. 23, 1992, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Amsterdam, following a short illness. Mr. Monk was born June 24, 1914, in Johnstown, tbs son of Leland and Bertha Seeley Monk. He attended school in Fultonville and Canajoharie, where he graduated in 1931. He was married to Dorothy Darrow. She died in May of 1989. He was employed at General Electric Co., Schenectady for several years, was the superintendent for the Town of Root and then operated the family farm for many years, retiring in 1974. Mr. Monk was a member of Otsqusgo Coin Club, Moose Club of Canajoharie, Mapletown Grange, Naptown Rod and Gun Club of Stratford and the Sprakers Reformed Church. Survivors include three sons, Richard L. and Edward C. Monk, both of Sprakers and Alton B. Monk Jr. of Ames; three daughters, Carol M. Slater of Hazel Park, MI, Diane M. Reynolds of Dolgeville and Cynthia J. Jones of Sprakers; 18 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two nieces. He was predeceased by a son, Roger A. Monk, in 1963. and a great-granddaughter, Davia D. Rockafellow in 1989. Funeral service was Wednesday, Nov. 26, at Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, Canajoharie with the Rev. James Foster officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours were Wednesday, Nov. 26, at the funeral home.
