Richard J. Nason enlisted and was mustered in
as a private in Capt. Stanford's Company,
Mississippi Light Artillery, on 6 Nov 1861
in Grenada, MS. He was discharged 26 Nov 1862
due to being over age. His service record
includes a form that states he was age 45,
born in Fairfield District, South Carolina.
He was described as a farmer and 5 feet,
8 inches tall with a fair complexion,
blue eyes and light hair.

"The death of Mr. Richard Nason on
Wednesday at his home eight miles
southwest of Grenada, takes away one of
the best citizens of our county. Having
spent a long and useful life here, he was
well known for his christian life, indus-
trious habits and love of home. Con-
servative as a citizen he discharged his
duties to the public with the same vitali-
ty that marked his social intercourse. He
leaves behind a comfortable estate, a
devoted wife, and two sons amongst our
best people, and a large circle of relatives
and friends. A member of the Presby-
terian church, his remains were placed
in the ground at Spring Hill Church, by
Rev. Mr. J.C. Carothers, of this place.
on Wednesday morning."
