Husband of Bridget nee Fitzsimons, father of Joseph Dowling (my great grandfather) who immigrated to Chicago, IL; also Edward (died as infant), William Albert Jr. (fate unknown), Catherine (never married), Alice (never married), Emily (never married), Mary (died as infant), Fred (never married, lived long but cannot locate grave), and Maud (never married) . Brother of Mother Veronica Dowling (born Emily Agnes,) the first Mother Superior of the order of Little Company of St. Mary in the "New World". William, his sister and their mother were the only of this generational Dowling family who would survive the Great Famine. A professional artist and lithographer, he worked for the Ordinance Survey office in Dublin, credited for hand creating maps of Ireland in that period. Member of St. Paul Catholic church, Arran Quay until later on life and then St. James catholic church, Dublin. My great X2 grandfather.
