THE PARIS NEWS, Monday, Dec. 24, 2001: 'Virginia Lucille Farris, 89, of Rockwall, formerly of Lamar County died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001 in the Rockwall Nursing Home. Graveside rites are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, in Evergreen Cemetery with the Rev. Kenneth Short officiating. Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Farris was born Sept. 20, 1912 in Paris, a daughter of Martin Luther and Lucy Whitten. She graduated from Paris High School, then entered East Texas State University where she obtained her bachelor of arts degree. She was awarded her master of arts from Southern Methodist University, and had a life-long career of teaching, retiring from the Dallas Independent School District. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pleasant Grove. She married John Allon Farris, who preceded her in death in 1981. Survivors include two sons, John Fred Farris and David Allon Farris Sr. and wife Janice of Murchison; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.'
