Nettie Mae “Granny” Monroe, 79, of Athens, went to be with our Lord on Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, at NHC of Athens.
A daughter of the late John D. and Cora Rinehart Millsap, she was a native of McMinn County and a resident of the Clearwater community for the past 62 years. She retired from E.K. Baker School, as cafeteria manager, after 19 years of service and was a faithful member of Clearwater Baptist Church and the Ellen Ann Sunday School class. She dearly loved her family and special friends, and was preceded in death by her husband, Troy Monroe on March 24, 1962; three brothers; and three sisters.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Debbie Monroe of Athens; one daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Gene Dunn of Athens; one sister and brother-in-law, Opal and Howard Jarvis of Rockwood; one brother-in-law, Reed Brock of Niota; one sister-in-law, Betty Millsap of Visalia, Calif.; four grandchildren, Mike Dunn and wife, Cathy, Lacey Lee and husband, Chris, Josh Monroe and Jessica Lee; three great-grandchildren, Jason and Tiffany Dunn, and Cory Hyde; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Olen Hafley and the Rev. Wayne Bryant officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Pond Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Danny Hughes, Randy Queen, Paul Lowery, Marvin Henderson, Dale Wallis, Jimmy Knox and Lynn Moore.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home of Athens is in charge of arrangements.
