Rachel Hekel was born the daughter of John F. Hekel (Hekle)and Mary Elizabeth Sauer near Montheim, Prussia, Germany. They are buried in this cemetery. Charles and Rachel were parents of eleven children. Rachel died of stomach problems on February 12, 1908, near Quasqueton on the family farm which the family home is still standing in 2011, with a great-grandaughter and family living there.

~0bit~Mrs. Rachel Klotz, died at her home in Newton Township, February 12, 1908, aged 70 years 10 months and 4 days. She had been suffering with stomach trouble for about four years which later developed into dropsy and caused her death. Mrs. Klotz maiden name was Rachel Hekle. She was born in Germany, April 8, 1837, and came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fredrick Hekle, to Ohio in 1847 where they remained five years. In the year 1852 they moved to Dubuque, where she was married December 30, 1856, to Mr. C. F. Klotz. In 1856 they removed to Buchanan County and settled on the farm in Newton Township which has since been their home. Mr. and Mrs. Klotz were the parents of ten children. Five boys and six girls, eight of whom are still living: George Weston Klotz; Louis Franklin Klotz and Fredrick Henry Klotz and Mrs. C. J. Walter, Mrs. J. E Harris, Mrs. Charles Sauer, and Mrs. William Ironside. She is also survived by her husband, one brother, one sister, twenty-four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. She was a faithful wife, a loving mother, and a true friend. She possessed all the sterling qualities of mind and heart and the courage which made the wives of pioneer settlers a power for good in the development of this country. She will be greatly missed in the home and sincerely mourned not only by the family but by a host of friends. The funeral services were conducted at the Hoover Church by Rev. George J. Cameron. The remains were laid to rest in the Circle Grove Cemetery.
