North Side News. Citizen of Little Russia Make Up a Purse. Send to Motherland to Pay Passage for John Haspert.

The citizens of "Little Russia" made up a purse of $132 yesterday morning and turned it over to Charles Gerteisen, agent of the North Topeka Santa Fe Junction to pay the passage of John Haspert and family, who are stranded at Bremen, Germany, on their way to this county. They intend settling in North Topeka.

Jacob Haspert Services Held. Jacob Haspert of Ovid died Friday at the Holyoke Hospital. Haspert had been in ill health since January and was in a nursing home at Holyoke since February 28.

Rosary rites were Sunday evening at Austin Funeral Home. Funeral services were at St. Anthony's Church Monday morning. Interment was at the Ovid Cemetery.

Haspert was born in Kahler, Russia, December 10, 1884.

He was married to Anna Ziegler in Russia. They came to the U.S. to Topeka, KS in 1911. They then moved to a farm north of Ovid where they resided until he retired in 1949 and they moved into Ovid.

Survivors include his wife, a daughter, Angie Curnow of Julesburg; two grandchildren, Mrs. Vic Johnson of Julesburg and John Shank of Ft. Worth, Texas; a sister, Mrs. Anna Marie Ziegler of Manhattan, KS, and five great-grandchildren.
