Ralph N. Bacon, 75, of Riceville, died unexpectedly Monday afternoon, March 1, 1999, near his home.

A lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late James Robert and Nora Roderick Bacon and was also preceded in death by his wife Bettie Jane Wilson Bacon on Aug. 30, 1990, and a sister, Kathleen Bacon.

He was a member of Mars Hill Presbyterian Church for more than 40 years. He was a route salesman for Mayfield Dairy Farms for 27 years until his retirement and was an avid farmer and a devoted family man. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European theater receiving four bronze stars.

Survivors include one daughter, Lisa Bacon of Riceville; one son and daughter-in-law, David Lee and Donna Bacon of Friendsville; two grandchildren, Alysia Bacon and Mark Bacon, both of Friendsville; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Ed and Mildred Bacon of Riceville, Newell and Jo Bacon of Athens and Bobby and Christine Bacon of Cleveland; six sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruby and Houston Belk of Sweetwater, Ida Lee and Milton Hall of Louisville, Ky, Anoline and Walter Parkinson of Riceville, Nora and Paul Kelly of Grenada, Miss., Dean and Darrell Newman and Jean and David James, all of Chattanooga; a special aunt, Claude Bacon of Riceville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Mars Hill Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Bob Lucas officiating. Burial will follow at Riceville Cemetery.

The body will be in state at Jerry Smith Funeral Home after 11 a.m. Wednesday where the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m.
