Captain Thomas P. McCall was Sheriff of Bexar County , he held that office for 5 terms. Prior to being elected he was also a Sheriff of Bexar County from January 1, 1878 to December 31, 1892. He was a former Texas Ranger and Frontiersman. March 11, 1884 there was an ambush at the Vaudeville Variety Theater in San Antonio, Texas. King Fisher and Ben Thompson were both noted gunmen of the Old West. After Thompsons involvement in the shootout Thompson returned to his hotel room at the Menger Hotel, where he remained the rest of the night without being approached by police. The following morning he surrendered himself to Bexar County, Texas Sheriff Thomas P. McCall.
