Marvin Delano Mathews, age 74, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at St. Joseph's Hospital.
A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Charlie K. and Bertha Reed Mathews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mavis A. Mathews, who died in 1993; and four brothers, Felton, Bud, Bill and Quinton Mathews. He retired from Champion International. Marvin was an assistant scoutmaster with Troop 316. He loved spending time outdoors fishing and gardening. Marvin enjoyed singing, especially "Jingle Bells", and brewing wine with Tim.
He is survived by two sons, Michael D. Mathews and his wife, Heather, and Timothy S. Mathews and his wife, Karon, all of Canton; a daughter Tammy L. Mishaw and her husband, Rhett, of Lexington, SC; a sister, Faye Howard of Canton; and two brothers, Charles M. "Max" Mathews and Arnold D. Mathews and his wife, Anne, of Canton; seven grandchildren, Jodie, Courtney, Logan, Aaron and Andrea Mathews, and Jessica and Dylan Mishaw; two great-grandchildren, Christian and Cindy; and another one on-the-way, Keira
