James W. Davis, born Iowa, Private in Company H, 6th Iowa Infantry, Civil War. (Union).
Age 19 residing in Montrose, IA, at enlistment 2 August 1861.
Discharged due to disability from 6th Infantry (Iowa) on Jul 16 1864.

James W. Davis, aged 78, died at his home near Yale March 29, 1923. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Fred Nail of the Ingalls M.E. church at 12:30 o'clock March 30. James W. Davis was born in Appanoose county, Iowa, June 26, 1844. He was a union soldier in the civil war and was with Sherman at Shiloh. He was married to Mrs. Davis, who survives him, November 7, 1864, and to this union were born nine children all of whom are living. They are Mrs. Ida Hunter, Palesda; Colo.; Mrs. S.T. Kirby, Yale; Mrs. Anna Steele, Cushing; Mrs. Pearl Jones, Andover, Kan.; Mrs. Grace Cook, McAlester; Athol and Frank Davis, Yale; Jim Davis, Cushing; and Mrs. Ladie Cleveland, Ingalls.
