Luther Samuel Johnson's first wife was Elizabeth "Betsy" Mossburg, whom he married in 1854. Betsy died in 1862 in Jones Co, IA.

Obituary from the Wallowa Chieftain Newspaper, Enterprise, Wallowa County, Oregon, dated January 3, 1907:
Luther S. Johnson of Wallowa after several weeks severe suffering died at the home of his son, T.K. Johnson near the lower valley school house, last Thursday, aged 71 years 8 months 25 days. He came from Missouri to California about 1885 an in the fall of 1887 located in this valley at Alder where he lived about fifteen years, and since lived near the bridge below Wallowa until selling out and buying property in Wallowa just prior to his sickness.
He leaves to mourn his demise two sons and three daughters together with his wife. They all reside in this valley except one daughter. Father Johnson and his companion were members of the Seventh Day Advent Church to which they have been faithful members.
The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Chapel in Wallowa conducted by the writer assisted by the Disciple Minister, Elder Moore. Interment took place in the Wallowa Cemetery.
