STOMBAUGH ADAH PEALE In Sonora, CA, age 94, on Thursday at a Sonora assisted living facility. She was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and had lived in Sonora for the past 28 years. She is survived by her eldest daughter, the Rev. Marilynn M. Brown, an Episcopal Priest of Tualatin, OR., and by her sons; Ralph E. Ferguson, of San Carlos, CA and George W. Ferguson of Sonora, CA. Mrs. Stombaugh is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceeded in death by her first husband, Charles R. Ferguson of Cheyenne in 1994. He was a Mason, court reporter and welfare administrator. Adah was also a stenographer for State Board of Control at the Wyoming State Capital. Adah was left with 3 children under the age of 10 on Clarence's demise. She took in excess of 500 hours of beginning through advanced technical drafting courses from Univ. of Wyoming. She got a job in Cheyenne at the United Airlines B-17 modification base where she worked for 3 years as an aeronautical draftsman and taught blueprint reading classes 6 hours per day. In 1947 she married Don Stombaugh, who supervised some of the B-17 modifications at United Airlines in Cheyenne. He was then put in charge of part of the San Francisco United Air Lines Maintenance Base where he managed large number of employees until his retirement after 43 years with the company. They retired to Sonora, CA. They were married for 44 years until his death in 1991 at the age of 84. They had one daughter, Patricia Jean Stombaugh, who died from Cystic Fibrosis in 1965 at the age of 18. Adah was campaign chairman for the Peninsula Chapter of the National Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation, a long-standing member of the St. James Episcopal Church of Sonora, the Tuolumne County Republican Women's Club, the Retired Employees of United Airlines, The Los Altos Air association, Palo Alto Art Club, Montaivo, Honolulu Art Association, the Society of Western Artists and the Society of Directors & Vice-President of the South San Francisco Art Guild. She also worked in San Jose as a structural draftsman. She was a great-great-granddaughter of Chalres Wilson Peale, 1741-1827, whose paintings of George Washington are still in our White House. She studied oil painting at the San Francisco Academy of Arts & completed numerous courses in oil painting from the University of Hawaii, Foothill College, San Jose State as well studying under several prominent private teachers. She was an accomplished oil painter & her paintings her exhibited in Honolulu, San Francisco and Pebble Beach. Her work hangs in many private collections. A memorial service will be held at 10 AM on Thurs. Dec. 5, at St. James Episcopal Church in Sonora. Flowers or donations may be made to St. James Episcopal Church, P.O.
