Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 7, for Mrs. Christena Smith at the Presbyterian church in Atkinson at 1 p.m. and in the Evangelical United Brethren church in Orchard at 3 p.m. with the Rev. O.C. Graff of Atkinson and the Rev. J.L. Garland of Creighton officiating.

Christina Butzier Smith, daughter of John and Fredrica Butzier, was born January 22, 1870 at Fort Dodge, Ia. and passed away at Atkinson at her daughter's home, Feb. 4, at the age of 80 years.

On Sept. 6, 1885, she was married to George S. Smith, four children, three sons and one daughter, were born to them. Two of the sons died in infancy.

The Smiths spent the first 21 years of their married life near Fort Dodge and Moorland, Ia, moving to Walnut, Nebr. in 1906. Mr. Smith passed away May 19, 1929.

Mrs. Smith went to Atkinson to make her home with her daughter, although she has always made a several weeks visit with her son, Fred Smith, at Creighton each year. At the time she was stricken with paralysis, she had been at her son's home for six weeks.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church at an early age, of which she was a member until 1918, when she and all members of her family united with the United Brethren church at Walnut. When she moved to Atkinson, she transferred to the Presbyterian church and has been a faithful member for many years.

Mrs. Smith's hobby was quilting. Many people have mementos of her work as she had pieced and appliqued hundreds of quilts and quilted many hours.

During her illness she asked that her favorite hymns b sung at her funeral. Pallbearers were six grandsons.

Survivors include her daughter, Laura Butterfield of Atkinson and son, Fred of Creighton, seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; three sisters, Lizzie Consier of Ia., Julia Stratton of Wash. and Anna Taylor of Plainview.

Burial was beside her husband at Enterprise Cemetery in the Venus community.
