A Strange Case.
The body of Miss Emma Borth was brought here on the Nickel Plate road from Hammond at 4 o'clock Wednesday afternoon for burial. The cause of her death is not generally known but it is rumored that it was due to violence.
It will be remembered that she created a sensation a little over a year ago by sending a telegram to her folks here of her death and when the matter was investigated they found her not only alive but well.
Tuesday's Hammond News contains the following: Last night Emma Borth was taken ill and the physician thought she had taken poison as she was to be tried in the Superior court on a charge of larceny in taking a sum of money from a Whiting lady. She continued to suffer until this morning, when she died. An inquest and post mortem was held, but no trace of any kind of poison could be found in her stomach and the coroner returned a verdict of death from excessive mental strain.
