Grandma Nichols Dies
Mrs. Rebecca C. Nichols died at her home in the Mount Pleasant community June 28,. She was born in Roann (Rowan) County, North Carolina, February 13, 1834, where she lived until she was four years old, and from there moved to Tennessee, where she lived two years. From Tennessee, she moved with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Dowdy, to Stoddard County, Missouri, in 1840. She moved to Young County, Texas, in January 1884, living here until her death, June 28, 1924.
Grandma Nichols leaves five children, thirty-eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren to mourn her loss. Her children are as follows: W. A. Galloway, Graham, Texas; Mrs. R. M. Summers, Graham, Texas; S. W. Haggard, Profitt, Texas; Mrs. O. K. Freeman, Graham, Texas, and Mrs. J. A. Watson, Jean, Texas. The children were at her bedside when death came.
She joined the Primitive Baptist Church August, 1901, and remained a member of that church until the end. She was laid to rest in the Medlan Chapel Cemetery by the side of her husband, W. H. Nichols, who had preceded her in death by several years, Rev. G. W. Black conducting the funeral services.
