Sam Edward Bruton, 71, died Friday at 5:45 a.m. at his home on Sherman Route 4, after a lingering illness. He had been ill five weeks and in poor health seven years.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Friendship Cemetery west of Sherman, with the Rev. Paul O. Cardwell, pastor of the Key Memorial Methodist church, officiating, assisted by the Rev. J. V. Ray, pastor of the Fundamentalist Baptist church. Burial will be in the Friendship cemetery, directed by Talley. The body will remain at the home of Miss Mabelle Hope, 912 North Cleveland, until time of services.
Mr. Bruton was born in Burkesville, Kentucky, Dec. 31, 1867, a son of the late Kelly and Louvena Smith Bruton. He had been a resident of Grayson County sixteen years coming here from Kentucky.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Kate Bruton; eight sons, Dennie of Seymour; Gus of Portland, Maine; Roscoe of Pueblo, Colorado; John of Colorado City, TX; Travis of Burkesville, Kentucky; and Neill, Ralph, and Rollin Bruton all of Sherman; three daughters, Misses Jessie, Lela, and Essin Bruton, all of the home address; two brothers; Jess Bruton of Goree, Texas and Jim Bruton of Burkesville, Kentucky; five sisters: Mrs. W. S. Garner of Seymour, TX; Mrs. W. S. Bristow of Albany; Miss John Garner of Green Road, KY; Miss Agnes Bruton of Highway, KY; and Mrs. Edna Neighbors of Olney, KY; and sixteen grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be E. E. Blout, John Beard, Jess Cary, C. T. Wester, George Linn and Dell Mode.
