Dorothy E. Gibbs, 95, of Independence, MO peacefully passed away Monday, May 26, 2008 at Rosewood Health Center with her family by her side. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at Carson- Speaks Chapel on Lexington. Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Monday in the Chapel. Burial in Mound Grove Cemetery. Dorothy was born December 24, 1912 in Caledonia, MI to Arthur and Clara Eva (Eldridge) Menzies. She was wife of Missionary Arthur "Pete" Gibbs. As Community of Christ missionaries, they served at the Kirtland Temple; Hawaii during WWII and in the 1960s; Northwest U.S. and Alaska Territory; Oklahoma, Nebraska, Texas; Southeast U.S.; Haiti and Grand Cayman; Northern Indiana District; African-American Ministries; and Native American Ministries. Family suggests contributions to the World Hunger Fund, 1001 W. Walnut, Independence, MO 64052-3562. Mrs. Gibbs is survived by her daughters Alyce Utz; Judy Gibbs and husband Mark Fleming; grandchildren JoAnna Baker, Anna Fleming; step- grandchildren Melissa and Mark Fleming; great-grandchildren Julia Utz, Harley Zans, Madison Baker; step-great- grandchildren Kylan Fleming, and Elizabeth Swearingin-Baker.
