Civil War Enl May 9, 1861 at Henrico Court House, VA as a private, age 25, in Co. I, 10th VA Cavalry, Henrico Light Dragoons McGruder's Co. Present through 6/30/61, 3/4/62, 1/4/63. Absent on detail 5/6/63, as 4th Cpl. Present as 3rd Cpl. 7/12/63. Present as 2nd Cpl. 7/8/64. Promoted to full 2nd Corporal July 15, 1864. Issued clothing 9/30 & 12/31/64. In Libby Prison 4/10/65 prisoner of the North.
In 1870 Joseph was a prosperous shopkeeper in Tuckahoe, Henrico, VA. Joseph C. Mann held the positions of constable, deputy sheriff, and jailer from the years 1898 through 1905.
