The Richardsons were of English, Scotish and Irish descent. first record of the family was of George Richardson, a native of Pennsylvania. He moved to Kaskaskia, Illinois, where he was a typical trapper, hunter and Indian fighter. He reportedly fought in the Revolutionary War. He served in the army that quelled Indian troubles in Illinois and fought in the war of 1812.
George Richardson, father of John Richardson, drowned while trying to cross a swollen stream in Green Co., Illinois.

John Wesley Richardson was born in Adams Co., Illinois on Jan 1 ,1832. He had a farm of 300 acres six miles southeast of Scio. John Wesley was school Board director and clerk of Richardson Gap district for 30 years. He was also a Linn Co. "Thistle" commissioner. He was deacon at Scio christian Church. John W. Richardson died in 1914.

NOTE - He was actually born in St Clair county. Monroe County was not "created" until 1816 from parts of St Clair and Randolph Counties.
