Geo. R. McCoy Laid At Rest

The last words over the remains of our townsman and friend, Mr. Geo. R. McCoy, were spoken on Wednesday afternoon by Rev. Austin, pastor of the Methodist church, and the body laid away in the Osceola cemetery.

Deceased breathed his last at Lincoln Nebr., on Monday night, April 25th, having gone to the sanitarium for treatment a few days prior thereto. His end came with but a few moments notice and with no one present but the nurse. He had suffered for a number of months before he was finally called away. His wife had been at the home of their daughter, in Polk, where she had suffered an attack of pneumonia and from which she was not altogether recovered. The remains were therefore taken to Polk on Tuesday evening and brief services conducted at 10 a.m., Wednesday and later the regular funeral was held from the Osceola Methodist church under the direction of the I.O.O.F. lodge of this city. Deceased was also a member of the Masonic, the Modern Woodmen and the Ben Hur orders of Osceola.

He was a man universaly respected and held in high esteem by all. His word was always good an in every business transaction. Mr. McCoy was the sole of honor and integrity. The editor of the Democrat became acquainted with the deceased when he first came to Shelby in the 80's and later after he moved to Osceola, we were close to him in many ways. It was always a question with him as to the right of matters under consideration. He was kind and affectionate with his family, considerate of all about him and lived in peace with every man. He occupied positions of importance in the community, but always kept in mind he fact that it was the heighth of satisfaction.

George R. McCoy was born near Crawfordsville, Indiana, October 14, 1858. He came to Nebraska in 1882, and has spent a great part of the time in Shelby and Osceola.
