Velma M. Welch, 76, of Warrensburg, formerly of Warsaw, died Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at her home.
She was born Nov. 23, 1931, in Toledo, Ohio, a daughter of John Wesley and Etta Irene Smith Booker. On Dec. 6, 1947, in White House, Ohio, she was married to Staff Sgt. Jerry Harrison Welch, who died July 1, 1966.
She later had a long-term relationship with Dr. Richard Taylor Nuckles, who died in June 1989.
She was a homemaker. She enjoyed fishing, playing cards, especially pitch, and crocheting. She was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church near Warsaw.
Surviving are three sons, Jerry Welch, of Warsaw, Doyle Welch and Richard Nuckles, both of Independence; four daughters, Pamela Gardner, of Seattle, Deborah Buchanan, of Liberty, Urania Higbee, of Independence, and Dorinda Liebl, of Warrensburg; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Rebecca Siercks; a grandson, Dave Chance; and four sisters, Viola Booker, Lillian Powell, Marjorie Bordner and Shirley Beres.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Laurel Oak Cemetery in Windsor, with the Rev. Donald J. Allcorn officiating. Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at Hadley Funeral Home in Windsor. Condolences may be left online at www.hadleyfuneralhome.com.
