THATCHER--Funeral services for Richard G. Layton, 79, a local farmer and rancher, and member of the Graham County Farm Bureau, who preceded his sister, Mrs. Nora L. Clifford, 81, in death by 18 hours, will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow in the Thatcher Ward of the Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
He will be buried in Thatcher Cemetery.
Services for Mrs. Clifford will be held at 3 p.m. tomorrow in the Safford Fourth Ward Chapel of the LDS Church. Her burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Layton died Saturday in the Mountain View Nursing Home here. He was born in Thatcher and lived here all his life, attending the Gila Academy and was a member of the Safford Valley Cotton Growers Cooperative and the Safford Elks Lodge.
Mrs. Clifford, who died yesterday in Safford, was born in Mesa. She was active in the LDS Relief Society for over 50 years and did much work as a lay teacher and an organist.
Mr. Layton is survived by his wife, Winnie; three daughters, Mrs. Bonnie Payne and Mrs. Yetteva McKay, both of Safford and Mrs. Maxine Paul of El Paso, Texas; two sons, Edmond of Safford and Grant of Othello, Washington; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Clifford is survived by her husband, Asahel, three daughters, Mrs. Wilma Motes of Safford; Mrs. Martin Tate of Phoenix and Angeline Strickler of Bakersfield, California; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In addition, they are jointly survived by a brother, Henry M. Layton of Safford and four sisters, Mrs. Isabelle Pace of Phoenix; Mrs. Cleo Butler of Honolulu; Mrs. Martha Pace of Safford and Mrs. Saphrona Clawson of Thatcher.
Friends of Mrs. Clifford may call at the Safford Funeral Home from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until service time tomorrow.
