Died at his home in St. Marys, Pottawatomie Co., KS, was born in Joliet, Illinois, the son of Eugene and Edna (Mathias) Dinet. Graduated from high school in 1937, enrolled in Harvard University where he was invited to join the exclusive Spee Club. During his junior year, he was drafted into the Army and attended officers school at Fort Benning, Georgia. during WWII, he served his country in the Office of Strategic Services which later became the CIA. He was discharged from the Army in 1946. After the war, he returned to college and graduated Cum Laude in 1948 with Batchelor of Arts Degree. On March 19, 1952, he married Nancy Bruce Fulton. They made their home in Chicago and New York. Also lived in England, Brittany, France and Italy. Mr. Dinet and his family were Presbyterians but a thoughtful consideration of St John 6:22-67, led him to believe in the Eucharistic Real Presence of Jesus Christ and to seek entry into the Catholic Church. After becoming a Catholic he came to St Marys for retreat in July 1980. He soon decided that St Marys was exactly where he belonged and it was here he spent the rest of his life. From 1980-2000 he was a professor at St Marys College. He was enrolled in the Order of St. Dominic on May 11, 1982, taking the religious name Brother Giovanni Dominici, However he preferred to be called Brother Eugene. There after he was always seen wearing only black and white, the colors of the Dominican order. Until last years when his health began to fail, he assisted at Daily Mass. Survivors include, Barbara Scheidt of Joliet, Ill., and a cousin, William Bates of Park City, Utah as well as a host of friends, colleagues and students. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated May 27, 2008 at the Assumption Chapel in St. Marys. Burial followed at Our Lady of Peace Cemetary. Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys was in charge of arrangements.
