DEATH: Obituary MOTHER OF SEVENTEEN DIES
DEATH: The Pioneer is grieved to chronicele the death, Monday, of that splendid christian wife and mother, Mrs, L. G. Bowman at her home in Cora township. She had been in failing health for about a year with cancer of the stomach, and despite the very best medical and surgical skill, she grew gradually weaker until the end. Throughhout her illness she showed a patience and courage bordering on the sublime, never once uttering a word of complaint. Short funeral services were held at her late home yesterday at 10 a.m., then the body was taken to the Christian church at Dewey, and there the funeral sermon by her former pastor, Rev. Sapp, of Nemaha county, Nebr., was delivered before a large and sorrowing congregation. Burial was in Fairview cemetery.
Harriet Rosetta Hardin was born in Hancock conty, Ohio, March 1, 1852, and departed this life at her home near Smith Center, Kansas, June 7, 1920 at the age of 68 years, 3 months and 6 days. She was united in marriage to Leander G. Bowman, January 1, 1870. They lived in Ohio until 1876 when they moved to Lynn county, Iowa, residing there until 1880 when they moved to this county and located on a homestead in Washington township where she lived continueously until her death. To the couple were born seventeen children, the last three dying in infancy. One of daughters, Mrs. Ada Buck, died in 1910 at the age of 27 years and another, Mrs. Belle Merriman, died the year following at the age of 36 years. The twelve surviving children are: Mrs. Linnie Miller, Randall; Mrs. Mary Palmer, Charlie and Will of Smith Center; Ben of Dresden; Mrs. Pearl Golden, Cleave, John and Mesdames Ina Kindred, Bessie Sims and Nellie Reed of Smith Center, and Mrs. Myrtle Buck of Emmett, Idaho. Also surviving are the husband, a brother, sister, 34 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. The husband and all the children, with the exception of Mrs. Myrtle Buck, were present at her bedside when death came. Mrs. Bowman was converted and baptized at the age of 55 in the Christian church at Dewey in 1906. She lived a devoted christian life unto the end. Her last words were, "I am waiting for the light of Jesus to shine upon my soul." Then closing her eyes she fell peacefully asleep.
We desire to tender our heartfelt thanks to the many neighbors and friends for their tender care and help during the illness of our beloved wife and mother, and especially for the beautiful flora offerings at the funeral. Your love and kindness, we assure, will never be forgotton.
