DEATH: OBITUARY PASSING OF AGED PIONEER
Had Lived More Than A Half Century In Our Midst
__________________________
Rich and happy in the love of his fellowmen and bowed down by the flight of 86 years, Lee Bowman, Davenport stalwart, yielded to the inevitable last Thursday. His death took from his vicinity one of its staunchest, highly respected citizens, and one who bore the hardships and privations of pioneer life with courage, fortitude and an abiding faith in the future of Smith county. Ever friendly, courteous and helpful, he had long been looked upon as the good Samaritan, and he died with the good will of everybody who knew him.
Funeral rites were held last Sunday afternoon before a great throng in Dewey church, after which his body was laid to rest in Fairview cemetery beside that of his wife who preceded him to the great unknown in 1920. Rev. Luther Moore officiated, with six grandsons of the deceased acting as pall bearers, and six granddaughters as flower girls. Burial was in Fairview cemetery by the side of his wife.

he was united in marriage to Harriet Rosetta Hardin. They lived in Ohio until 1876, when they moved to Linn county, Iowa, residing there until 1880 when they moved to Smith county, Kansas and located on a homestead in Washington township.

After the loving wife passed to her reward, June 7 1929, he made his home with one of the daughters, Mrs. Pearl Golden, Charlie, Cleve, led peacefully away in the presence of all the children, except Mrs. Mrytle Buck. Mr. Bowman was converted in the Beiderwolf meeting and became a member of the Christian church at Dewey, Dec 1, 1907 and lived a devoted christian life unto the end. He will be sadly missed as he was a kind and loving father.
