Henrey Shoults was born in 1830 at Carlisle, Nicholas, Kentucky and raised there. The 1850 census shows Henery in Greenbrier Co., Virginia working on a farm (possibly living with sister). This is where he met Nancy M. "Agnes" (Hanna) Shoults. Henrey and Agnes were married and headed west with her parents. Their first child was born on the farm near Tipton, Iowa.
Henrey & Agnes moved on to a farm in Homer, Hamilton Co., Iowa and 8 more children were born there. Agnes died at age 39 after giving birth to child # 9, and the child also died soon after. The 2 are buried in Webster City, Iowa.

Henrey was a blacksmith, and a miner. After the death of his wife he went to Colorado to mine for gold in the Gunnison area, and in 1880 he was living with his daughter in Saguache.
The census in 1885 at Saguache, Colorado shows that Henry had remarried since 1880 to a woman named Martha.
In the late 1890's he became very ill with Bright's Disease and his eldest son brought him to his home in Chadron, Nebraska to reside. Henrey died there and was buried on the family homestead 4 miles west of Chadron, Nebraska.
