Bessie M. Lofties [nee Arrowood, nee Avery], 96, Presbyterian Manor, died Friday (May 26, 1989) at Ark City Memorial Hospital. Born Sept. 19, 1892, in Cattlie, Okla., she was the daughter of Del and Alice Fountain Arrowood. She was later married to John R. Avery in December 1910. They made their first home in Guthrie Okla., and moved to Arkansas City in 1920. He [John R. Avery] died May 19, 1954. She married Elmer Lofties Jan. 20, 1974 in Arkansas City. They made their home here. He [Elmer Lofties] died Sept. 23, 1976. She was a homemaker, a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Victory Chapter 151 Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Wilbur Alice Steffens, Bartlesville, Okla., Mrs. Ted O'dell Miller, Pueblo, Colo., one sister, Mrs. Phil Cooper, Olney, Ill., five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Hubert Arrowood. Graveside services will be 4 p.m. Saturday (May 27, 1989) at Riverview Cemetery with the Rev. Philip D. Hirtzel officiating. Memorials in her name to, the Presbyterian Manor Health Care Unit may be made at Rind-Erdman-Oldroyd Funeral Home.
