Ann Louise Meister Smith, 82, formerly of Devola, died on Friday (March 2, 2007) at The Arbors of Marietta.

She was born on Aug. 31, 1924, in Marietta to Harry Gottlieb and Alice Frances Stephan Meister. She was a member of the Class of 1942 at Marietta High School.

On Jan. 20, 1946, she was married to John H. Smith Jr., who preceded her in death on Jan. 1, 1991. She worked as a telephone operator during World War II and in retail sales since 2002.

She is survived by her daughter, Jill, and son-in-law, Jack MacRae, of Devola; three grandchildren, Ann Marie Behrens and her husband, Kevin, of Milford, Ohio, Amy Jo Schumacher and her husband, Bartley, of Parkersburg, W.V., and Patrick John MacRae and his wife, Jennifer, of Cincinnati, Ohio; and seven great-grandchildren, Olivia, Jacob and Tyson Behrens of Milford, Alison, Erin and Emma Schumacher of Parkersburg, and Duncan MacRae of Cincinnati. Also surviving is her twin brother, Don P. Meister of Marietta; three nieces, Polly Jo Savramis (Stephen) of Keyser, W. Va., Becky Cortino (Robert) of Hickory, N.C., and Stephanie Place (Kevin) of Melbourne, Fla.; nephew, John H. Hightower (Peg) of Knoxville, Tenn.; and her sister-in-law, Pauline M. Hightower of Keyser, W.Va.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday (March 7, 2007) at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Sears officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery with her husband. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.

Memorial donations may be made to The Alzheimer's Association of the Mid-Ohio Valley. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
