John Graves was the son of Irvin and Lucinda (Samsel) Graves. He was born 20 June 1861 in Cedar County, Missouri and died 20 Aug. 1867 in Linn County, Kansas. His father died ca 10 April 1866 in Cedar County, MO of consumption. Irvin Graves was a Civil War Veteran. He enlisted as a Private in Company A of the 15th Calvary Regiment Missouri Union Army.
His mother, Lucinda, married 2. Asa Tackett on 23 April 1867 in Cedar County, Missouri. The Tackett family later moved to Oakwood, Linn County, Kansas.
John Graves had a sister. Mary Margret Graves. She was born 15 Nov. 1863 in Cedar County, MO. She married R.P. Vinton March 1882 and died Dec. 1883.
The above information is from the Civil War Pension File of Irvin Graves, Lucinda Tackett Case NO. 278,074 (widow) and No. 278,075 (minor children). Within the pension record, were two marriage records, four copied pages of the family Bible owned by Asa Tackett listing births, deaths, and marriages of the Graves and Tackett families, and depositions of several family members who were present at the birth of the children.
