Blackshear - Oscar Thomas "Tom" Ashley, 80, died May 22 at Jesup Rest-A-While Nursing Home.
He was a native of Fort Meade, Fla., and lived in Vero Beach, Fla., for most of his life before moving to Blackshear (Georgia) over a year ago. He retired in 1980 as a chief aviation machinist's mate from the Navy and the Reserve after 38 years. He was the former owner of Buss Appliances in Vero Beach.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 250 with 50 years of service, the American Legion Felix Poppell Post No. 39, the Vero Beach Shrine Club and the Fleet Reserve Association.
Survivors: his wife, Hazel Thompson Ashley of Blackshear; a sister, Collen Allen of Bartow, Fla.; several nieces and nephews, including Patricia Thomas of Blackshear; and other relatives.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Funeral: 11 a.m. Thursday at Strunk Funeral Home in Vero Beach.
Pearson-Treadwell Funeral Home, local arrangements.
Remembrances: First United Methodist Church Building Fund of Vero Beach or a service charity of the donor's choice.
