She was a resident of Hendersonville, TN for the past seven years and she departed from this earth on April 21, 2008.
Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, George Mathis Hughes, her son, Johnny Mathis Hughes, brothers Ellis Eldridge, Elsie Eldridge, and Marvin Eldridge, a sister, Ruth Smith, her parents, John T. and Cora Kelly Eldridge, and her best friend and sister-in-law, Beatrice Prestridge.
She is survived by her daughter, Betty Joyce Hughes and devoted son-in-law, Carroll "Doc" Hughes of Hendersonville, TN., grandchildren, James "Tiger" Ming (Janet) TN., Donna Smith, TN., Darrell Hughes (Kerry), of Australia, and George Michael Hughes (Rachael), of Grand Cane, LA., and two step-grandchildren, David Hughes, Oak Ridge, TN., and Mary "Missy" Hughes, Pascagoula, MS.
She also leaves eleven great grandchildren two great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Hughes was a member of First Baptist Church of Crowville, where she faithfully attended as long as she lived there from 1981 to 2001. She will be remembered by her friends and family for her love of animals, her personal strength, and her sense of humor.
