Kenneth George "Cookie" Young was born in Bakersfield and went to Wayside Elementary, Golden State Jr. High, and South High School.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1962 - 1964. He worked for Bakersfield City Fire Dept. from 1967 - 1988. He belonged to E Clampus Vitus (Clampers) a historical organization. This organization erects historical markers in many western states.

Kenny was very proud to be a part of this Brotherhood. He participated in various activities and made many good friends. He served as cook for 13 years, Noble Grand Humbug twice, and COO (Committee of One) this past year, of which he finished two days before his passing. The members of E Clampus Vitus will certainly miss his dedicated service and his great sense of humor.

He is preceded in death by his father, Oscar "Red" Young; mother, Cleo Lavers; stepfather, David Lavers; and stepmother, Becky Young. He is survived by his family, Linda Johnson, long-time companion of 21 years and the love of his life; his children, Ken, Bobby, Johnny Young, and Angel Carrey; 12 grandchildren and 3 great- grandchildren. Linda's children, Brian Johnson, Clent Blaylock, and Natalie Blaylock, and 7 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Pruett and husband, Eddie; Judy Thomas; and Cheryl Lavers- Tracy. Also, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Their Uncle Kenny was very special to them. Kenny fought a courageous but very short battle with cancer. He was loved by many and will be missed. We love you, Kenny.

A graveside service will be held Friday, May 23rd, 2:00 p.m., at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 9101 Kern Canyon Road. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the Old Timers Museum, Box 94, Murphy's, CA 95247-0094.
