Obituary: Sullivan Daily Times 20 Jan. 1912
Following an illness of nearly two years duration, David James Stewart passed away at his home on North Section Street at 9:30 Friday evening.
He was born in Romney, West Virginia, Sept. 14, 1846. At the age of eight years, he with his parents moved to the central part of Ohio, coming to Sullivan County nine years later. The greater part of his life has been spent in Turman Township where he was engaged in farming.
He united with the Methodist Episcopal Church at Mt. Tabor in 1875 and has lived an earnest Christian life. The last months of his life were months of intense suffering, yet he bore it all patiently, often expressing his perfect submission to the will of his Heavenly Father.
He is survived by his wife, Malissa Stewart, and five children, two sons, C. E. Stewart living west of Sullivan, David E. Stewart of this city; three daughters, Mrs. Archie W. Lovelace of this city, Mrs. C. H. Alverson of Vermillion Grove, Ills., Mrs. Orville Kinney of Trimble, Ills., and fourteen grandchildren: one brother Henry Stewart of Anderson, Ind., and three sisters Mrs. Richard Niccum of Anderson, Ind., Mrs. Barbara Grizzel of Hutsonville, and Mrs. Martha Houpt of American Falls, Idaho. One daughter, Miss Lulu Stewart and one grand daughter preceeded him in death.
Funeral will be held from the Providence Church at eleven a.m. Dunday. Services will be conducted by Rev. P. C. Lisman. Burial will be in Merom Cemetery.
