Dunnie L. Burns, 77, formerly of Shelby Street, Sandusky, passed away peacefully late Wednesday evening, May 21, 2008, in Providence Care Center, Sandusky, after a lengthy illness.
She was born March 21, 1931, in Warrior, Ala. to Mary Lizzie McAnnally and Lewis Ernest White. She graduated from Warrior School in 1949. Dunnie was a lifelong member of Elvester Baptist Church in Alabama and a new member of Zion Lutheran Church in Sandusky. She married Jerry David Burns, Dec. 23, 1950, in Mississippi, and together they moved to Sandusky around 1952. Dunnie was a homemaker, mother and long-term caregiver to her husband, Jerry. She enjoyed cooking, baking, quilting, and country music.
Survivors include her son, Ronald Burns and daughter, Deborah Burns(Mark)Pankow both of Sandusky; five grandsons, Jason, Andrew and Benjamin Burns and James and John Pankow; great-granddaughter, Avery Burns; two great-grandsons,Caleb and Gavin Burns; two sisters, Eunice Marie Cooksey of Arkansas and Ruth Helen White of Alabama; nieces and nephews; and she also leaves behind her dear friend and roommate, Violet Billett.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry "David" Burns, Oct. 31, 1997; parents; two brothers, James Willard and Ernest Edward White; and three sisters, Pauline Moon, Essie Aline Miller and Mary Lucille Abel.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday in David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
