Augusta Chronicle, issue of 18 May 2000: SYLVANIA, Ga. - Mrs. Bessie Overstreet Mulligan, 77, died Saturday, May 13, 2000, at Athens Regional Medical Center, Athens. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Middle Ground Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Huffingham officiating. Mrs. Mulligan, a native of Screven County, was a homemaker. She was a resident of Savannah from 1939 to 1954, where she was a schoolteacher and a legal secretary. She moved to St. Petersburg, Fla., and was a secretary at St. Petersburg Junior College. She moved to Athens in 1996. Survivors include two sons, B. Edward Mulligan, Athens, and James C. Mulligan, Raleigh, N.C.; and four grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 1005 Bullard Court, Raleigh, NC 27615; or to Middle Ground Baptist Church, 213 Middle Ground Road, Sylvania, GA 30467. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Thomson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home.
