SHELBURN — Robert Earl Allen Jr., 70, of Shelburn went to be with the Lord at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007. He will be greatly missed by his family, yet his family rejoices in knowing he is with our Lord and is reunited with his son, Bobby Gene, who preceded him in death. He was born Sept. 13, 1936, in Sullivan County to Robert E. Allen Sr., and Ruby Wheat Allen. They also preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 20 years, Mary Ann Norris Allen and her children, Lori and Prentice Montgomery of Prairieton, Karla and Mark Bender of Prairie Creek, Scott Keller of Prairie Creek, and Kristi and Bill Schloesser of Shelburn. He also is survived by his son, Roy Edward Allen; and has many grandchildren and great-grandchldren who call him "Grandpa Bob". He has two sisters, Mary Edmonson of Sullivan and Shirley West of Terre Haute; and a brother, Ronald Eugene Allen of Chillicothe, Ill.
He retired as a maintenance mechanic from Alcan Aluminum, formerly Anaconda Aluminum, after more than 30 years. He loved to work with his hands, was a wood crafter, and formerly owned the Crafter's Junction in Prairie Creek. He had a twinkle in his eye and never met a stranger. He was quite a storyteller and had a gentle spirit. He was affiliated with the Church of Living Faith in Prairie Creek.
Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive in Terre Haute, with the Revs. Steve Marlow and Charles Areson officiating. Burial is at Westlawn Cemetery in Farmersburg . Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
