She was born Feb. 13, 1927, in Fredonia, Kan., to Samuel and Rosie Fanning. Her family moved to California when she was 6, and she lived there until moving to Eureka in August 2006.
Margaret worked as a checker in grocery stores. She loved working in her garden and reading. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church,
Survivors include daughter, Carol Diefenderfer; and six grandchildren, Lisa, Lori, John, Rebecca, Christopher and Nancy.
Graveside services will be at the Tobacco Valley Cemetery in Eureka.
